Auto Pièces is expanding its storage area to 1,700 spaces with the help of OHRA cantilever racks.
The French car recycler Auto Pièces no longer stores its end-of-life vehicles on the floor, but in OHRA cantilever racks. This makes it possible to store four vehicles on top of each other – while also providing direct access to the cars at the bottom. While Auto Pièces previously had over 350 parking spaces for end-of-life vehicles, 750 vehicles can now be stored in the same area, bringing the site's total capacity to 1700 spaces.
Sustainability as core business
Whether it's engines, mirrors or shock absorbers – Auto Pièces supplies high-quality, tested used parts with a guarantee. Around 110,000 used spare parts are always in stock. The company is committed to sustainability and has made recycling its core business.
Experts recycle an average of 98 percent of the weight of an end-of-life vehicle by reusing parts and recycling metals, plastics and other components. This has helped the company, based in Le Tallud, to become one of the leading suppliers of certified used parts in France.
60 heavy-duty racks
In order to create more space for old vehicles and to increase the efficiency of the recycling process, OHRA installed a total of 45 double-sided and 15 single-sided cantilever racks on the site. Each of these 1.6-meter-wide racks can store four cars weighing up to 2.2 tons each per side. The racks were combined into eight rows, each of which is enclosed by a guide rail. This rail makes it easy to maneuver the side loader, which stores and retrieves the end-of-life vehicles.
Storage capacity is just one advantage
By storing the vehicles to be recycled on OHRA cantilever racks instead of on the floor, Auto Pièces was able to more than double its storage capacity. At the same time, each vehicle can now be accessed directly and without having to be moved or rearranged. This greatly simplifies the handling. In addition, damage to the end-of-life vehicles is avoided. This makes it possible to obtain more and higher-quality spare parts. Overall, this has significantly increased the efficiency of recycling.
